Towards the end of my second year at university I started to get really poorly struggling to make myself do the work and go into placement. I managed to make it to the end of the year just about but over that summer I realised I needed to make some changes if I was going to survive my final year and qualify!
I’ve always loved swimming and found it really relaxing and helpful for my mental health! So I made the decision to try a water based sport! I discovered waterpolo and fell in love with it and the team! (Thank you Helen for agreeing to come with me on the first session and swimming whenever I felt nutty xxx )
The training and the socials made me leave the house and get up and be active! And then while I was there I knew I had people I could talk to if I ever needed!
The games helped to release stress and any anxiety!
Being part of a team and a group of people i knew I was seeing every week helped me feel stable at uni and probably is one of the main reasons I finished my degree!
So if you’re at uni and struggling with your mental health! Find a sports team!! The sense of being part of something is a great pick me up!
Plus if the jumpers are anything like UEAs they make great nap attire!
